Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations issued a voluntary safety recall of an estimated 36,000 FS561 tires in size 255/70R22.5 used on severe-service trailers.
The tires were manufactured between February 2015 and January 27, 2016, or DOT weeks 0515–0416, the company said. All other FS561 sizes and applications are not included as part of this recall.
It said the tires, when in severe service, could be subject to scrubbing. That could increase the risk of the tread separating or detaching, which might cause a crash “without warning.”
However, it said in a statement, “There are no known accidents or injuries.”
But there was an “elevated” number of warranty adjustments for tread separation and or detachment issues with those tires, and that prompted the recall, the Nashville, Tennessee-based company said.
FS561 tires installed in the trailer application will be replaced for free with the FS560 Plus or comparable Bridgestone or Firestone brand tire.
These tires do not exhibit an increased risk for this condition in any other application or service condition, the company said.
