Bose Corp. officials have set the retail price for a sophisticated new heavy-duty truck seat, which is now available for purchase, at $5,995.

The seat, named the Bose Ride System, is designed to combat driver fatigue and prevent driver back pain by countering bumps as the truck moves and by compensating for the movements instantly, before the driver feels the vibrations.

Bose brought a trailer with a simulator inside to demonstrate the seat’s virtues at the Truckload Carriers Association convention in Las Vegas last week and will bring the simulator to the Mid-America Trucking Show later this month.

The company unveiled the seat in late January at its Framingham, Mass., headquarters but did not have a retail price set at that time (click here for previous story).
