Booming Brokers Look Over Shoulder at Internet

NEW ORLEANS — Business for transportation intermediaries is booming, with freight brokers claiming as much as 80% of all the profit in the truckload segment, according to two transportation researchers who discussed their findings at the Transportation Intermediaries Association’s Annual Conference.

Despite their good fortune, virtually all brokers remain worried about their future because of the potential of Internet-based freight matching services to put many of them out of business.
