Revenue increased to $5.53 billion from $5.24 billion, and profit before taxes and interest climbed to $1.74 billion from $1.65 billion.

BNSF, based in Fort Worth, Texas, credited the results to continued growth in domestic intermodal and shipments of petroleum by rail.
