Bison Transport Testing Use of LNG-Powered Trucks

Canadian truckload carrier Bison Transport has begun testing the use of liquefied natural-gas powered trucks, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The carrier is the first in the country to test the use of LNG in trucks and hopes to spend 30% less on fuel and cut emissions by 30%, the Canadian news agency said.

Shell Canada is partnering with Bison on the project and is opening LNG stations in the cities of Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer, CBC said.

Shell is developing LNG transportation corridors in North America for trucking and commercial transportation and said recently it plans to install LNG production units in Ontario and Louisiana.

Shell also recently partnered with Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks to expand the use of LNG in heavy-duty trucks.

Bison Transport, Winnipeg, Manitoba, is ranked No. 65 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
