Bill Would Regulate Safety of Intermodal Chassis

en. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) has introduced an industry-backed bill designed to make sure that only roadworthy truck chassis are released by shipyards and railyards for truckers to haul in intermodal operations.

Under his measure, owners would be required to inspect and repair their intermodal equipment to meet Department of Transportation safety regulations before allowing them to be used by other companies and truck drivers.

There are an estimated 800,000 pieces of that equipment, according to American Trucking Associations.
