Users of Bestpass transponders to pay tolls are now able to use the same transponder to participate in Help Inc.’s Prepass truck weigh station bypass service.

An agreement between the two organizations will let Bestpass customers enroll transponders in the PrePass system, allowing a single transponder to be used for both services, said John Andrews, CEO of Bestpass in Albany, N.Y.

Founded in 2001 by the Trucking Association of New York, Bestpass processes more than $45 million in tolls each month on more than 40 toll roads and bridges in the United States for about 3,400 freight carriers.

Mark Doughty, vice president and chief operating officer of Help Inc., said using a weigh station bypass service saves time and money, and the new arrangement with Bestpass will help fleets by “extending the value of the Bestpass transponder.”

Based in Phoenix, Help is a nonprofit public-private partnership that provides weigh station bypass, toll payment and safety score management services for more than 500,000 vehicles that are prescreened for compliance with state and federal safety requirements and driver credentials.
