Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems announced a partnership with Geotab Inc. Jan. 15 aimed at making its fleet tracking system more widely available.

Bendix’s SafetyDirect system provides fleet operators with feedback on their drivers to help improve their safety and efficiency. The Geotab platform will now support the technology in a partnership that provides potential for expansion to many more fleets.

“A Geotab-equipped fleet will be able to transfer SafetyDirect data over that channel,” TJ Thomas, Bendix director of marketing and customer solutions, said in a statement. “Our fleet customers spec’ing the Geotab platform have expressed great interest in this capability, and we’re excited to provide this solution.”

Geotab specializes in telematics for fleet management and vehicle-tracking applications. “With all of Geotab’s product offerings, we strive to maintain the highest possible standard of safety, and our technology integrations with industry partners are no exception,” Scott Sutarik, vice president of commercial vehicle solutions at Geotab, said in a statement. “We are proud to welcome Bendix to the Geotab ecosystem.”

SafetyDirect provides fleets with insight into driving behaviors and trends across their operations. The system wirelessly transmits this data along with video feedback. Fleet operators then can access that information securely online to better improve their operations and safety.

Through the partnership, SafetyDirect will be available even to commercial vehicles deploying older versions of that technology.

Bendix made the announcement during Geotab Connect 2020, a user-focused conference than runs Jan. 13-16 in San Diego.

Bendix noted that the rollout has already begun, with an expectation it will be available to all fleets in mid-2020.

“Safety and performance information integration helps drive the future,” Bendix Product Line Director Hans Molin said in a statement. “Geotab is one of the most trusted names in the industry, and its broad coverage across the commercial vehicle marketplace aligns with the rapidly growing interest for the integrated safety insight offered by SafetyDirect.”
