Bendix CEO Expects Stability Mandate Proposal This Year

Predicts Implementation by 2012-’14

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The head of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems said he expects federal regulators to offer a proposal later this year mandating that heavy trucks be equipped with stability systems by as early as 2012.

“We believe there will be a federal stability mandate put out before the end of 2010,” Bendix Chief Executive Officer Joe McAleese said at the Mid-America Trucking Show here.

McAleese said he expects the proposed rulemaking by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration could be implemented sometime from 2012-2014.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems develops and supplies active safety technologies, air brake charging, and control systems and components for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, buses, and other commercial vehicles throughout North America.
