Autonomous vehicle company Aurora Innovation Inc. and Ryder System Inc., a provider of supply chain, dedicated transportation, and fleet management solutions, announced a strategic collaboration to pilot on-site fleet maintenance.

Ryder technicians will be embedded at Aurora’s terminal in South Dallas to support the current pilot operations and prepare for commercial operation at scale.

“Collaborating on this customized solution with Aurora advances our shared goal of facilitating the commercialization of autonomous technology,” Ryder Chief Marketing Officer Karen Jones said.

Ryder Supply Chain Solutions ranks No. 11 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.

Ryder will embed technicians to work alongside Aurora technicians to maintain Aurora’s fleet of autonomous Class 8 tractors — including inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs. They also will inspect and maintain trailers for pilot hauls and compliance with DOT standards, the companies noted in a release.

“Teaming up with Ryder’s sophisticated maintenance team will help to unlock the potential of autonomous trucks for around-the-clock operation,” said Kendra Phillips, vice president of service delivery at Aurora. — Transport Topics
