Household goods mover Atlas Van Lines has deployed Omnitracs’ MCP50 platform across its fleet to enhance fleet safety and regulatory compliance, the onboard technology supplier announced.

The carrier invested in the devices and began using Omnitracs’ hours-of-service application in preparation for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s expected electronic logging mandate, which the agency plans to finalize this year.

Atlas Van Lines previously adopted the legacy OmniTracs systems to enhance communication between drivers and back-office staff but moved to the company’s newer technology when seeking to eliminate the use of paper log books.

Omnitracs said its hours-of-service application allows drivers to switch among multiple operating authorities, an important feature for Atlas’ operations.

“It’s extremely important that our drivers deliver cargo safely and efficiently within the scope of the new ELD mandates, and the MCP50 — coupled with the HOS application — will help us achieve these goals while managing our compliance efforts much more easily,” Jeff Schimmel, vice president of transportation services at Atlas Van Lines, said in the announcement.

Atlas Van Lines is the largest subsidiary of Evansville, Indiana-based Atlas World Group, which ranks No. 36 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
