Atlas to Conduct Background Checks on Seasonal Employees

oving company Atlas Van Lines will expand its use of background checks to include seasonal employees by the middle of 2006 in order to improve security, a company official said.

Dennie Lynn, a senior vice president for Atlas’ relocation services group, said Atlas made the decision after the American Moving and Storage Association failed to develop a formal background check policy to cover seasonal, or temporary, workers during the summer.

Several other moving companies said they are planning to take similar action involving pre-employment screening, but did not have a definitive timetable.
