ATA Tonnage Index Rises 2%, Matching Earlier Reported Gain

merican Trucking Associations’ revised April for-hire truck tonnage matched its preliminary 2% increase, the group said.

he month-to-month gain — the first in three months — followed a 2.9% drop in March and a 3.6% drop in February.

The seasonally adjusted index now stands at 112.6, up from March’s reading of 110.4. ATA issued its preliminary report in late May just before Memorial Day.



Actual freight volumes — also known as not seasonally adjusted data — fell 9.5% in April, ATA said. The contraction lowered the not seasonally adjusted index to 107.8 from 119.1 in March.
