ORLANDO, Fla. — Mack Trucks Inc. and Michelin North America said they will continue as the main sponsors of American Trucking Associations’ Share the Road educational program in 2014, and Volvo Truck agreed to again sponsor the America’s Road Team program.

The companies made their announcements at ATA’s Management Conference & Exhibition here Oct. 21.

“Mack has been a proud sponsor of Share the Road for well over a decade, a period marked by a strong downward trend in the nation’s accident rate,” John Walsh, vice president of marketing for Mack, said at MC&E. “And Share the Road has played a role in that.”

“The Share the Road program and its million-mile accident-free drivers has proven to be a perfect vehicle — literally — to help teach the public how to better co-exist with large trucks,” said Steve Jahries, vice president of national accounts at Michelin.

The Share the Road program is aimed at educating the public, including young drivers, on how to safely travel around large trucks, ATA said. Mack supplies the program’s truck and Michelin supplies its tires.

In addition to the Mack and Michelin sponsorships, Share the Road receives support from TravelCenters of America.

Volvo has sponsored the Road Team, which sends a select group of truck drivers around the country to promote the trucking industry and highway safety, since 2002.

“Road Team captains are elite professional drivers,” Göran Nyberg, president of Volvo Trucks’ North American operations, said Oct. 21 at ATA’s Management Conference & Exhibition here. “They are also elite educators on important issues of essentiality, safety and sustainability. They are the true ultimate industry ambassadors.”

Volvo supplies Interstate One, the image campaign truck the Road Team captains use. TravelCenters of America, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems and XRS Corp. also provide support for the program.
