American Trucking Associations President Bill Graves has named Daniel Stanley to the position of senior vice president-chief of staff. Stanley came to ATA from the Department of Defense, where he was assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs. “Dan brings to ATA a wealth of experience from having served as a manager in the highest levels of government. I have worked with him in the past, and we’re fortunate he has chosen to bring his skills to us. His work will be of great benefit and value to the organization and to our members,” said Graves. As the Defense Department’s legislative coordinator, Stanley led its legislative affairs staff and supervised the overall operations of the legislative office, ATA said. Before coming to the Defense Department, Stanley was secretary of administration for the state of Kansas, during Graves’ tenure as governor. Stanley was the senior member of the governor’s cabinet and chief operating officer of the state government. Prior to that, Stanley was on the staff of former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.), serving as administrative assistant, legislative director and defense policy adviser. Earlier, he was director of strategic planning at McDonnell Douglas Corp. A native of Kansas, Stanley graduated from Empire State College in New York. This story appears in the April 17 print edition of Transport Topics. Subscribe today.
