ATA Hires Safety Specialist, Environmental Lawyer

American Trucking Associations beefed up its staff in key policy areas by hiring a veteran safety specialist and an environmental attorney.

Joining ATA as director of Safety and Operations, Neill Thomas most recently worked in the Bus and Truck Standards & Operations division of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Trucking officials may recognize Thomas as a point man for several of the Department of Transportation’s trucking regulations. He was involved in developing the hours-of-service proposal and he worked on the electronic logbook test project with Werner Enterprises.

Thomas will help ATA advance sound safety policies on a range of driver and motor carrier regulatory and operations issues, including commercial driver licensing improvements and drug and alcohol testing, according to ATA’s announcement.

Glen Kedzie, a Washington, D.C., environmental attorney, is ATA’s new assistant general counsel and environmental counsel.

Kedzie will concentrate on the growing number of environmental issues confronting the trucking industry, ATA said. His primary responsibilities are reviewing and analyzing regulatory actions so ATA can make informed policy recommendations on matters involving the environment.
