American Trucking Associations will stress the importance of professional drivers as part of its 2024 Management Conference & Exhibition in Nashville, Tenn.

The “Nothing Without Trucking” mantra aims to convey the importance of that message, but so will the meetings and events throughout the conference, which began Oct. 12 and runs through Oct. 15 at Music City Center. Vital industry data and the latest technologies will be prevalent, and speakers will include political strategist Karl Rove.

“Held during the final weeks of a turbulent election season in the midst of an uneven economy, MCE is our moment to bring the opportunities and challenges facing our industry into sharper focus,” ATA President Chris Spear said. “Regardless of whom the American people choose to elect in November, one thing remains certain: Our industry will soon face a new administration and Congress, with enormous implications for our strategic priorities and Tier 1 issues.”

Rove served as deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to former President George W. Bush. His keynote address Oct. 15 is expected to cover the political challenges the country faces in the lead-up to the presidential election.

Spear will make his annual state of the industry address the day before, and ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello was scheduled to provide an industry trends update during a breakfast session Oct. 14.

“MCE is ATA’s foremost event for policy and strategy, leveraging the immense talent and expertise within our ranks to address the array of challenges facing trucking and the U.S. economy,” ATA Chairman Andrew Boyle said. “As a fleet executive with a vested interest in our industry’s success, I consider MCE a must-attend event for me and my team.”

Committee sessions will focus on topics including the environment, workforce development, driver health, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The American Transportation Research Institute provided further insights into industry trends as part of its annual Big Reveal on Oct. 12. ATRI President Rebecca Brewster and a panel of other industry stakeholders will discuss the challenges trucking has been facing as well as possible solutions.

The topic of environmental policies and operational efficiency is set to be explored throughout the conference. The Connection Between Eco-Driving and Safety session, as well as the Achieve Better Than Zero With Natural Gas Trucks session were held Oct. 13.

MCE 2024 also will recognize the accomplishments of the many people throughout trucking, including the graduating class of LEAD ATA. The program provides participants pursuing leadership roles with real-world experience and in-depth industry insights.

MCE attendees also can interact with numerous companies and vendors in the exhibit hall, whose last day is Oct. 15.
