Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is scheduled to expand on the role of public-private partnerships, or P3s, at an event at the Port of Newark, New Jersey, Oct. 1.

Last week at the Long-term Infrastructure Investors Association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., the secretary said P3s are meaningful financing tools for officials to use to pay for big-ticket highway projects.

P3s are a “part of an ecosystem that support the growth of American infrastructure in more ways,” Foxx told the group.

In a blog post shortly after that event, the secretary elaborated: “We know for sure that our country is growing and that we’re going to have more people accessing our roads, rails and airports and more freight to move than ever before. Rather than having a single strategy, we need to have an all-of-the-above strategy. We need to use every financing tool available. When it makes sense, we need to turn to the private sector.”

The event will start at 1 p.m.
