The Marvin Cos. plans to build a $76.5 million, 400,000-square-foot window and door manufacturing facility in Kansas City, Kan., that will boast 600 employees, including truck drivers, within four years.

Gov. Laura Kelly recently announced: “Marvin’s investment emphasizes that my administration’s approach to attracting business into our state is working. We are delivering on our commitment to making Kansas the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Marvin’s new site will be at 9822 Leavenworth Road, near interstates 435 and 70, in the Scannell 435 Logistics Center, a 400-acre master planned logistics park.

With this new expansion, Marvin will operate in 17 cities across North America, including its 2 million-square-foot campus at its founding headquarters in Warroad, Minn. The company, which dates to 1912, is family-owned and run. Today, there are seven fourth-generation Marvin family members working at the company, which ranked No. 19 on Forbes magazine’s America’s Best Large Employers of 2024 for those over 5,000 employees. It has a 66-year-old profit-sharing program that has shared over $395 million with employees.

Lt. Gov. and Commerce Secretary David Toland said Kansas officials “fought hard to win Marvin’s new production facility because we value their reputation for building industry-leading products and treating their workers well and because they align with Kansas’ strengths in advanced manufacturing and distribution.”

Chris Hoerth, director of enterprise logistics and distribution, told Transport Topics the company looks forward to expanding its manufacturing operations in Kansas City, where earthwork has already begun.

“Marvin has grown significantly and thoughtfully, and this new facility supports our long-term vision while positioning the company in a central location known as a great logistics hub,” Hoerth said. “This new location helps Marvin meet increasing demand for our award-winning windows and doors manufactured with our proprietary Ultrex fiberglass, which has excellent durability, making it a great material for windows and doors.”

Paul Marvin, CEO and board chair, said, “As our history shows, when Marvin commits to doing business in a community, we consider that a long-term partnership.”

Upon completion next year, the Kansas City location will hire 100 team members in full-time positions across manufacturing, fabrication and assembly. With progressive annual growth, Marvin expects to employ a 600-person workforce by 2028.

“Marvin has been warmly welcomed by the community, and we’re looking forward to welcoming hundreds of new team members in the coming years,” Hoerth said. “We have an impressive tenure on our driving team with retention exceeding 85% — notably well above the estimated industry average. With our focus on safety and putting people first, our drivers want to be here. Consequently, our customers love interacting with our drivers, and as a result, long-standing relationships develop that support our mutual success.”

He encouraged truckers interested in joining the company to visit a special page on its website (marvin.com/careers/areas/driver), which states drivers are guaranteed a $75,000 annual salary and earn an average of $95,000 yearly. Drivers also are home two days per week and behind the wheel about 2,200 miles weekly.

Although Marvin doesn’t yet have an exact number of truck drivers to be hired to work from the Kansas City facility, a spokesperson said “we’ll have a better sense of the potential for opportunities for new drivers late this year as plans for the facility are finalized.”
