Michigan state officials are enthusiastic about 140 new jobs and a $2.35 million expansion in Ann Arbor by RXO Corporate Solutions to increase its brokerage presence.

“RXO’s expansion in Ann Arbor will empower us to continue growing our economy and securing a strong future for our working families,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said recently. “Thanks to our effective fiscal management, hardworking people and innovative businesses, Michigan’s economy is growing with low unemployment, rising wages and strong small-businesses growth.”

RXO ranks No. 18 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. announced the expansion of RXO, a leading provider of asset-light transportation solutions. The project is receiving a $650,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program.

In addition, a community organization called Ann Arbor SPARK has offered to help RXO hire and train qualified candidates for the new jobs.

Lou Amo, president of truck brokerage for RXO, said, “We’re proud to expand our brokerage presence in Ann Arbor. Our employees help connect shippers with thousands of contract carriers to streamline supply chains. RXO’s facilities in Michigan, including our expanded Ann Arbor office, will play a critical role in supporting our aggressive growth plans.”

RXO provides tech-enabled truck brokerage services with relevant solutions including managed transportation, freight forwarding and last-mile delivery. The company’s proprietary technology, RXO Connect, connects 10,000 customers with more than 100,000 independent carriers and 1.5 million trucks across North America.

“Michigan was chosen for the project over competing sites in Missouri, Ohio and South Carolina. Michigan’s talent base and skilled workforce were key factors in selecting Michigan for this project,” MEDC stated June 8.

RXO already employs more than 900 workers in Ann Arbor, Buchanan and Southfield. RXO Corporate Solutions is a spin-off of XPO, among North America’s largest less-than-truckload providers. RXO is a tech-enabled brokerage platform formed to separate XPO’s asset-based LTL business from its brokered transportation platform.

Matt McCauley, MEDC’s regional prosperity senior vice president, said state officials celebrate RXO’s expansion in Michigan.

“We appreciate your vote of confidence in our state and in our workforce,” he added.

RXO’s new 18,000-square-foot brokerage office in Ann Arbor will support more than 175 employees. Minutes from downtown, the park also is home to 80 bison roaming outside the office. The building’s design includes a full gym, basketball courts, putting greens and volleyball courts.

“Our future is bright,” Whitmer said, “and investments like today’s by RXO will help us continue moving our state forward.”
