FMCSA Shuts Down N.J. Carrier

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said Monday it has ordered J&A Transportation Inc. to stop operating, declaring the New Jersey-based trucking company an “imminent hazard to public safety.”

FMCSA said it ordered the shutdown after finding that the company continued to operate without valid operating authority. J&A Transportation also operated vehicles that had “serious mechanical defects” and were not regularly inspected and repaired, FMCSA said. The agency also cited hours-of-service and driver qualification violations.

“FMCSA takes seriously its responsibility to remove unscrupulous truck companies off the road. Companies that disregard safety will be shut down,” FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro said in a statement.

Late last month, FMCSA said it ordered Utah-based Reliable Transportation Services to shut down due to multiple violations of regulations concerning hours of service, hazardous materials, drug and alcohol testing and vehicle maintenance.
