Diesel Price Sheds 5.3¢ to $3.894 a Gallon

The national average diesel price slid 5.3 cents a gallon to settle below $3.90 for the first time in 13 weeks, according to Energy Information Administration data released May 6.

Highlights

  • Diesel’s current price of $3.894 marks the first time a gallon has cost less than $3.90 since it was $3.899 on Feb 5. It also marks the lowest price since a gallon cost $3.867 on Jan. 29.
  • A gallon of diesel costs 2.8 cents a gallon less than it did at this time in 2023.
  • Diesel’s average price declined in all 10 regions in EIA’s weekly survey, ranging from a high of 7.3 cents in the Lower Atlantic to two-tenths of a cent in the Rocky Mountain area.
  • The national average for a gallon of gasoline dipped 1 cent to $3.643. That's still 11 cents more than it cost at this time the previous year.
