David Payne Cox, co-owner of Cox Trucking, died April 3 after a 2 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 67.

Cox was an active American Trucking Associations member for many years.

He was born in St George, Utah, on Dec. 30, 1955, to Parke and Emily Cox.

St. George-based Cox Trucking was founded in 1947 by his father. David and his brother Don Cox bought the business in the 1980s.

Prior to joining the family firm, David Cox worked for Moore Business Forms.

He loved to play golf and travel, combining the two in the weeks prior to his death on a trip to Costa Rica with all his family, where he flew across the jungle on a zip line, played pool volleyball with his grandchildren and sailed the ocean on a luxury yacht.

David Cox is survived by his parents, wife, Elaine, three children from his first marriage (Brecken, Cortney and McCall), stepchildren Trevor and Talisha, grandchildren and his siblings. — Transport Topics
