Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies’ Endurant XD automated transmission is now available for three vocational Western Star and Freightliner models, the joint venture said Dec. 11.

Endurant XD and Endurant XD Pro, paired with Cummins’ X12 or X15 engines, can be installed on the Western Star 47X and 49X and the Freightliner 114SD Plus models available from the Daimler Truck North America subsidiaries.

As part of the Cummins integrated powertrain, Endurant XD options are 18-speed automated manual transmissions, the joint venture said.

“We offer our vocational customers reliable products that can be outfitted to suit their needs,” said Aaron Scates, vice president of vocational and medium-duty market development at DTNA. “By offering the Eaton Cummins Endurant XD series transmissions in our Western Star and Freightliner vehicles, our customers will have more options when spec’ing for their specific application.”

The 47X was previously available with a Detroit DD13, Cummins L9 or Cummins X12 engine and transmission from Detroit (DT12-V), Eaton Corp. or Allison Transmission. Detroit Diesel Corp. is a unit of DTNA.

Its larger 49X sibling was previously available with a Detroit DD13, DD15 or DD16 option as well as an X12 or X15 engine. Transmission options included the Detroit DT12-V or DT12-VX or Eaton or Allison products.

The Endurant XD transmission, packaged with a Cummins engine, was already available in the United States for Freightliner’s Cascadia semi.

Other original equipment manufacturers beyond DTNA units also offer an integrated Eaton-Cummins powertrain package.
