Automakers Sue EPA Over Ethanol Blend

Automakers and engine manufacturers are suing the Environmental Protection Agency over its plan to allow fuel stations to sell gasoline with 15% ethanol, the Associated Press reported.

The group filing suit claims that motorists might mistakenly use the E15 blend in vehicles that cannot handle it. E15 was only approved for vehicles made in 2007 or later, AP said.

EPA ruled in October that fuel stations could sell E15 for vehicles made in 2007 or later. Currently, only a 10% ethanol blend is allowed.

EPA has said that a congressional mandate to increase ethanol use could not be met without the E15 ruling, AP said.

The group has filed its suit in the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
