YRC’s Third-Quarter Profits Rise

ess-than-truckload carrier YRC Worldwide late Thursday reported its third-quarter earnings rose to $92.3 million or $1.72 a share, from $85.3 million or $1.53 cents in the same quarter last year.

Operating revenue at the nation’s largest LTL carrier rose to $2.57 billion from $2.49 billion last year.

Operating income for the quarter rose to 177.6 million from $156.8 million in 2005.



RC said its quarterly earnings per share exclude $.08 charge related to reorganization expenses, a loss on sale of a subsidiary, and net losses on property disposals.

Within its operating units, Yellow Transportation’s revenue rose 0.7% to $898.8 million, while operating income fell to $68.7 million from $73.5 million.

evenue for the company’s Roadway unit rose 4.9% to $900.2 million. Operating in-come rose to $59.4 million from $58.3 million.

YRC Regional Transportation, which includes the USF companies and New Penn Motor Express, had third-quarter revenue of $624.7 million and operating income of $48.1 million.

While revenue at Meridian IQ, the company’s logistics subsidiary, rose to $153.7 million, operating income plummeted 86.5% to $850,000, down from $6.3 million last year.
