YRC Says 3Q Tonnage Up; Expects Operating Loss

YRC Worldwide said Monday its third-quarter tonnage was up from a year ago and its revenue per shipment also improved, though it forecast an operating loss for the quarter.

The less-than-truckload carrier said it expects to report a third-quarter operating loss of $18 million to $22 million and that its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization will be $42 million to $46 million.

Third-quarter tonnage per day for its YRC National and YRC Regional units was 1.2% and 2.1% higher, respectively, than the second quarter of this year.

Revenue per shipment for YRC National was 1.9% higher and for YRC Regional 3.7% higher than a year ago, the company said.

YRC, ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, will release its full third-quarter earnings on Nov. 5.
