ellow Roadway Corp. said Tuesday it has changed its name to YRC Worldwide Inc. and that it will change its Nasdaq ticker symbol to YRCW on Wednesday.

“The breadth and depth of the enterprise is greater than the name Yellow Roadway conveys,” Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bill Zollars said in a statement. “Our new name, YRC Worldwide, better reflects the reality of what our enterprise is today.”

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that the name change was in part to avoid negative connotations as the company continues to expand into China, and said YRC will operate its own trucks in that country this year.

It will start with fewer than 100 trucks to serve four major manufacturers near the Port of Shanghai, China, though the company has not decided if it will acquire a Chinese trucking firm or buy its own trucks, Zollars told the Journal.

The company said in September it had finalized formation of a freight forwarding venture in China, first announced in June. (Click here for previous coverage.)
