The Wyoming Department of Transportation is planning a study to determine which highways would be safe to raise the speed limit to 80 mph.

Earlier this month, Gov. Matt Mead (R) signed a bill into law permitting WYDOT to increase the speed limit on highways from 75 to 80 mph. The law goes into effect July 1.

“It has not been decided yet whether we’re going to do the study ourselves or hire a consultant,” WYDOT spokesman David Kingham told Transport Topics.

The higher speed limit will not be posted until the state completes the study, Kingham said.
