Winter Weather Prompts Some States to Lower Speed Limits

Inclement weather in the form of snow, ice, rain and wind prompted several states Wednesday to temporarily lower speed limits, news reports said.

In the Northeast, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont all lowered speed limits on their highways, the Associated Press reported.

Maine officials lowered the speed limit to 45 mph on the entire length of the Maine Turnpike, while freezing rain and icy conditions caused Massachusetts officials to lower the speed limit on the Massachusetts Turnpike to 40 mph, the Worcester (Mass.) Telegram & Gazette reported.

The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm warning for most of New England and much of upstate New York, AP said.



Parts of Idaho and Montana are under a winter storm warning from to a different storm system, while flood warnings are also in effect in much of Washington state, AP reported.
