Weather on the Web, By Subscription

Truckers, like sailors, need to keep one eye on the weather gauge. And truckers, like many people, are turning more and more to the Internet to find crucial information. So real-time weather data and the Internet seem to be a natural match.

Punching “weather” into any net search engine produces dozens of pages, ranging from the U.S. forecast by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to the latest regionalized reports from print and broadcast news services and commercial offerings by subscription, including weather by e-mail.

Among the many weather information vendors coming to the commercial market is Meteorlogix, which claims more than 150 meteorologists and software developers on staff and a “couple thousand” customers in the transportation industry.
