Wabash Names Greubel President, CEO

Trailer maker Wabash National Corp. said Tuesday that it has named William Greubel president and chief executive officer effective May 6, replacing acting president and CEO Richard Dessimoz.

He will also join the board of directors.

Greubel was formerly president and chief excutive officer of Accuride Corp., which manufactures wheels for heavy- and medium-duty trucks and trailers.

This announcement came one day after the Lafayette, Ind.-based company announced the resignation of former president and CEO Donald “Jerry” Ehrlich, from a position on the company’s board of directors.

Ehrlich will continue to function in a consulting capacity.

Wabash, which has laid claim to being the world’s biggest trailer maker, has contended recently with the same kinds of problems that beset truck manufacturers as well as with a slumping economy.

Fiscal 2001 saw the company report a net loss of $232.2 million, which followed a loss of $6.7 billion in fiscal 2000.

The company made 35,000 trailers in 2001, down nearly 50% from the 69,772 it produced the year before.

“The company has concluded a year in which it faced many obstacles stemming from a very difficult economic climate in the trailer industry, and has taken the steps necessary to deal with the internal and external factors that have negatively affected its financial results and liquidity position," Greubel said.

Wabash designs, manufactures and markets standard and customized truck trailers under the Wabash and Fruehauf brands.
