VW Board to Focus on Truck Brands at Meeting

Volkswagen’s supervisory board will focus on the company’s truck brands and its efforts to overtake Daimler AG as the world’s largest truck maker at its next meeting, according to Reuters.

The board will meet Feb. 21 and discuss expanding its stakes in Sweden-based Scania AB and Germany’s MAN SE, both of which its owns majority stakes.

Daimler, which sells the Freightliner and Western Star brands in North America, currently is the world’s best-selling truck maker.

VW also may discuss hiring Andreas Renschler, who headed Daimler’s truck business until last year when he moved to its Mercedes-Benz brand, Reuters said. Renschler left Daimler in January but cannot immediately work for VW due to a non-compete clause in his contract.
