Virginia Senate Committee Strips Most Tolling From House-Passed Bill

Virginia’s Senate Transportation Committee debated late into the night March 2 before finally removing the key tolling provisions from legislation that had passed the House.

The bill will next be considered by the Senate Finance Committee. Since the bill has been amended, it will have to go back to the House if the Senate passes it minus the language that generally would have prohibited tolling any existing highway, bridge or tunnel without approval of the Legislature while generally permitting tolling high-occupancy lanes, new lanes and new bridges.

Virginia’s legislative session is to set to end March 12.
