USA Truck Reports Lower Earnings

Truckload carrier USA Truck said Thursday its first-quarter profit plunged to $800,000 or 1 cent per share, from $3.4 million or 30 cents a year earlier, on softer freight demand.

Revenue fell 2.4% to $94.5 million, the company said in a statement.

“Demand for truckload services was softer than any quarter we have experienced in several years,” said Jerry Orler, USA Truck’s chief executive officer.

But, he added, “freight demand did improve from lows in January and February to a steadier freight environment in March.” Orler was named CEO in January.

USA Truck is ranked No. 55 on the Transport Topics 100 list of for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
