U.S. Trade Deficit Drops in March

he U.S. trade deficit fell to $55 billion in March from an all-time high of $61 billion in February, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday.

The figure surprised analysts, who had projected another monthly deficit in excess of $61 billion, Bloomberg reported.

Trucks are used both to deliver imports to local stores and to move exports from factories to airplanes or ships for overseas shipment.



The trade gap with China narrowed, which could reflect a slowdown in trade because of the Lunar New Year, Bloomberg said.

Imports fell 2.5% in March, to a three-month low of $157.2 billion. Exports rose 1.5% to $102.2 billion, Commerce reported.
