UPS Reports Fourth-Quarter Profit Topped $1.1 Billion

UPS Inc. reported its fourth-quarter net income rose 7.5% to $1.13 billion or $1.04 a share, up from $1.05 billion or 95 cents a year earlier. Revenue rose 5.6% to $12.63 billion, UPS said Tuesday.For the full year, UPS earned $4.2 billion or $3.86 a share, up from $3.87 billion or $3.47 in 2005. Full-year revenue rose 11.7% to $47.55 billion, in line with the company’s projections.UPS, which celebrates its 100th anniversary as a company this year, said its ground volume rose 3.6% in the quarter. The company expects its earnings per share this year to rise 6% to 10% to $4.10 to $4.25, Chief Financial Officer Scott Davis said. For the first quarter, the company anticipates it will earn 94 to 98 cents, compared with 89 cents during the last first quarter.UPS is ranked No. 1 on the 2006 Transport Topics 100 listing of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
