niversal Truckload Services reported late Wednesday it earned $4.4 million or 27 cents a share in the second quarter ended July 2, compared with $2.9 million or 29 cents for the comparable period last year.

Warren, Mich.-based Universal said operating revenue for the quarter rose 62% to $127 million.

The carrier said in a statement that revenues grew in part because of its acquisitions of truckload carriers Great American Lines and CrossRoad Carriers.

Universal is ranked No. 64 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
