Union Pacific’s 1Q Profit Rises 11%

Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its first-quarter profit rose 11%, as higher prices drove freight revenue up.

Net income rose to $957 million, or $2.03 per share, from $863 million, or $1.79, a year ago.

Revenue rose 3.5% to $5.29 billion, the Western freight railroad said in a statement.

Intermodal freight revenue rose 9% to $988 million and automotive revenue jumped 13% to $487 million.
