Two Technology Providers Debut Products to Improve Safety Compliance, Navigation

Trucking technology providers Vigillo and Magellan have launched new products designed to help carriers comply with safety regulations and improve navigation.

Vigillo has introduced a new Web-based application that prepares carriers for on-site audits conducted by enforcement officials from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The Vigillo Intervention Manager is an upgrade to the company’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability scorecard offering, which collects fleet safety information and presents it in a scorecard format.

Vigillo said it developed the intervention manager after observing the FMCSA’s actions during CSA program-related carrier interventions for more than a year. The product mirrors the criteria the FMCSA uses to identify high-risk drivers, vehicles and crashes during an intervention, the company said.

Magellan, which also makes GPS devices for cars and light vehicles, announced the launch of a new in-cab navigation device designed for truckers.

The Magellan RoadMate Commercial 9270T-LM features a 7-inch touchscreen GPS display, customizable truck routing, hands-free communication and trip logging, the company said.

To prepare for their trips, drivers can use the device to create custom routes based on the height, weight, width and length of the truck, as well as applicable hazardous material restrictions, Magellan said.
