wo powerful state lobbies — the Arkansas Poultry Federation and the Arkansas County Judges' Association — said that they would recommend members support Gov. Mike Huckabee's $575 million highway bond ballot item, the Associated Press reported.

Another lobby, the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation, has yet to take a position on what has become the more controversial of two bond items set for next Tuesday's special election ballot, AP reported.

The Arkansas Trucking Association was the first major state lobby to publicly oppose the highway bond plan, which would allow the state's highway commission to have $575 million in bonds out at any one time.

The trucking group's executive committee voted unanimously in early November to oppose a renewal of a 1999 bond program on highway improvements.
