The appointment of Edward Buhner of Kentucky as president of American Trucking Associations in 1947, as documented in this Nov. 3, 1947 edition of Transport Topics, set in motion a process that continues today of selecting industry executives to serve as the titular head of ATA for one year.

Since Buhner’s term, 68 trucking executives have served as ATA chairman, with Duane Long of Longistics Inc. expected to hand over the job to Pat Thomas of UPS Inc. at the ATA Management Conference & Exhibition next week in Philadelphia.
