Trucking Seeks Assurances On Information Sharing

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials say that information the trade community routinely compiles is indispensable in preventing terrorists from slipping bombs, weapons or other material on shipping containers, but trucking representatives want assurances that the information voluntarily supplied to the government will not be misused.

As part of a wider border security effort to enlist industry adherence to a set of best security practices, industry appears prepared to share with government more of the real-time information trading partners and suppliers regularly transmit to keep each other abreast of the exact status of shipments.
