Trucking Expects New Congress Will Back Pro-Business Agenda
img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Republicans wrested complete control of Congress from Democrats in the Nov. 5 elections, which led much of the business community including trucking to celebrate, in the belief that the GOP's agenda is more to its liking.
Republican control of the Senate means that friendlier faces will take charge of all the committees that handle legislation of interest to trucking, relegating the former Democratic chairmen to the status of ranking minority members.
"Republicans . . . generally are more pro-business and create a better environment for us," said James Whittinghill, senior vice president for legislative affairs at American Trucking Associations. "It will be a better environment in the 108th Congress for us, but it was pretty good in the 107th, too."
