Trogdon Named to Run North Carolina’s DOT

Roy Cooper, who will be sworn in as North Carolina’s governor on Jan. 7, named Jim Trogdon as his secretary of transportation on Jan. 3.

Trogdon had served as NCDOT’s chief operating officer before his 2013 retirement and had coordinated the public-private partnership project for the managed lanes on Interstate 77 near Charlotte. Previously, Trogdon served as director of strategic transportation planning for North Carolina’s General Assembly.

A former Army major general, Trgodon had been leading the SAS Institute’s efforts in leveraging analytics in state and local government transportation.

“Jim Trogdon knows North Carolina’s transportation successes and challenges better than anyone, and he will bring technical know-how and smart solutions to the job,” Cooper said in a press release. “Our state’s growing population and business climate need good roads and smart mass transit, and he will lead the way.”
