Transport Workers May Get Universal ID Card

The Maritime Administration is working on a proposal to develop a nationwide identification card for transportation workers that all truck drivers and millions more who are employed in moving people and freight would carry.

Each cardholder would be classified under four security levels based on a criminal background check by the FBI and other agencies. Cards would carry an endorsement to transport hazardous materials.
