A number of companies that provide electronic dispatching and trailer-tracking services have adopted a single communication standard that they said combines both systems into a single interface.
The Trailer Tracking Interface Standard enables carriers to integrate their trailer-tracking technology into their dispatch or operations systems, allowing companies to track their equipment via their existing dispatch network, said a spokesman for TMW Systems, one of the vendors.
TTIS defines communication formats and makes provisions for vendor-specific data elements. It can be used on any platform and with any system, which means any carrier could adopt it regardless of the carrier’s information structure, according to the companies.
The standard was developed by a committee made up of more than a dozen companies representing both technologies. Members include Arinc, Qualcomm, Vantage Tracking Solutions, HighwayMaster, PeopleNet and Innovative Computing as well as TMW Systems.
