TFI International Expands Into Last-Mile Medical Delivery With Acquisition

TFI International (formerly TransForce Inc.) acquired the ground transportation business of World Courier in the United States from pharmaceutical distributor AmerisourceBergen Corp.

Terms of the transaction, announced Jan. 13, were not disclosed.

Established in 1983, World Courier Ground provides same-day package delivery, expedited trucking and warehousing services for the medical industry as well as financial, chemical and industrial shippers.

“World Courier Ground is a strategic fit for our package and courier business in the U.S. and diversifies us into the important medical last-mile business,” said Alain Bedard, CEO of TFI International in Montreal. “This is another example of how TFI International is selectively expanding its U.S. footprint.”

The World Courier business will operate with current management under the name TForce Critical, and its operations will be integrated with Dynamex, a same-day package delivery business acquired by TFI in 2011.

In 2016, TFI purchased the dry van truckload business of XPO Logistics and renamed it CFI to honor the Joplin, Missouri-based carrier’s origin as Contract Freighters Inc.

TFI ranks No. 10 on  the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
