XM Radio’s Third-Quarter Loss Narrows
XM Satellite Radio Holdings Monday reported a narrower loss for its third quarter and said it would reach the lower end of its previous forecasts for full-year subscribers.The company’s loss fell to $85.5 million or 32 cents a share, compared with $134 million or 60 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose 57% to $240.4 million, also beating analysts’ estimates, AP said.
XM said it ended the quarter with 7.2 million subscribers, up 43% from a year ago, and said it expects to end the year with a total subscriber base of between 7.7 million and 7.9 million, which is at the bottom end of its previously announced estimate range. Transport Topics
Globalstar Goes Public
Satellite communications provider Globalstar Inc. on Thursday made its initial public offering, pricing 7.5 million shares of its common stock at $17 a share.Globalstar plans to use the proceeds from the IPO to fund the launch of a new satellite constellation, the company said in a statement.
Globalstar’s shares slid to $16.50 on the NASDAQ at the close of trading on Friday. The company offers satellite telephones, simplex and duplex satellite modems and service packages. Transport Topics
IdleAire Completes Electrification Systems at Florida Truck Stops
IdleAire on Wednesday said it completed the installation of its Advanced Truckstop Electrification technology at two truck stops along Florida’s Interstate 75.IdleAire installed the technology, which provides climate control, internet access and other in-cab amenities for truck drivers, at the TravelCenters of America in Wildwood, Fla., and the Petro Stopping Center in Ocala, Fla., the company said in a statement.
Use of the IdleAire system eliminates the need for truckers to idle their tractors in order to use electronic systems in their cabs.
The systems interface with tractors via a window adaptor that is available from participating truck stops for a $10 charge. Transport Topics
Loading Automation Debuts New Pneumatic Roller System
Loading Automation on Wednesday introduced its new retractable pneumatic rollerbed system.Compared with a standard rollerbed trailer systemm, the company’s Hydraroll Mark 21 Twin Roller Track System requires 20% less force to move a fully-loaded air freight container, Loading Automation said in a statement.
Loading Automation, Wilmington, N.C., develops and produces automated shipping and receiving conveyor systems. Transport Topics
NAPA Adds Antibacterial Agent to Cabin Air Filters
NAPA Filters said last week it will add BioShield 75, a new antimicrobial agent, to its cabin air filters.Filters treated with the BioShield 75 agent are less susceptible to the growth of molds, mildew, fungi and odor-causing bacteria, resulting in health benefits for truckers whose cabs are equipped with the filters, NAPA Filters said in a statement.
The filters will be available early next year. Transport Topics
