Logility Net Income Up Slightly in 4Q
Supply chain management company Logility said Monday that its net income rose slightly in the fourth quarter that ended April 30.During the quarter, Logility’s net income was $541,000 or 4 cents per share, up slightly from the $467,000 the company claimed in 2001, still just 4 cents per share.
For the quarter, total revenue equaled $7.1 million, 13% higher than the previous year.
UTi Worldwide Reports Higher Net Income
UTi Worldwide Inc. reported a net income of $4.8 million, or 18 cents a share, for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2003, which ended April 30, compared with $4 million, or 16 cents a share, in the preceding fiscal year.UTi is a supply chain management company providing logistics services.
Operating income rose 49% to $7.9 million in the quarter, from $5.3 million a year ago. Net revenues totaled $76.9 million, up 4%.
Looking ahead, the Rancho Dominguez, Calif.-based company said in a release that airfreight shipment activity in the U.S. market has remained weak in the second quarter. Transport Topics

BAX Global Extends Mexican Service
BAX Global Inc., now includes deliveries to and from Mexico in its BAXSaver service, the company announced Tuesday.BAXSaver, the press release said, now offers time-definite, door-to-door delivery between the U.S. and Canada to the major Mexican business regions of Mexico City, Guadalajara, Saltillo, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi and Monterrey.
BAX now provides options including air, surface via BAXSaver and customs brokerage at the border, a spokesman said, as well as complete Web-based tracking visibility to all cross-border shipments. Transport Topics
Cummins Receives Order for Alternative Fuel Engines
Cummins Westport Inc. said Tuesday it has received an order from bus manufacturer Eldorado National for 45 alternative fuel engines for buses.Thirty-seven of the buses will run on propane and be shipped to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, while the remaining eight will run on natural gas and be sent to the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
Though propane- and natural gas-powered trucks are not yet common, the technology holds promise for helping the industry reduce emissions and comply with stricter environmental guidelines.
Cummins Westport is a joint venture of Columbus, Ind.-based Cummins and Westport Innovations Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia. Eldorado National is based in Chino, Calif. Transport Topics

German Cos. To Team on Alternative Fuels
German vehicle manufacturers DaimlerChrysler AG, MAN AG and several others will join in a project to develop alternative fuels to meet new, stricter emissions standards, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.Alternative fuels are being looked at as a solution to increasingly tighter restrictions on emissions for gasoline and diesel engines.
The so-called Clean Energy Partnership will explore the use of hydrogen as a fuel instead of petroleum, Daimler said.
The project is slated to last for five years, Bloomberg said, and the participating companies hope to have a fleet of 30 vehicles by next year to test and improve customer acceptance. Transport Topics
Ford, Qualcomm Dissolve Wingcast Telematics
Ford Motor Co. and Qualcomm Inc. have agreed to dissolve a Telematics joint venture called Wingcast, which was owned 85% by Ford and 15% by Qualcomm.Qualcomm said Monday it will continue to use the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology in its other telematics services, and it will be licensed to use some of the technology developed by Wingcast.
Ford said its vehicles will still be equipped with telematics services, including those using CDMA technology, even without the Wingcast company. Transport Topics
